Once upon the last day of a golden summer...

Something I played for the kids this day every single year. Now I am playing it for them on FB. It is the end of summer in Australia. We have had what? One hot day?

My daughter says her church singing has helped her to sing Christopher Robin's part. My favourite part of the video is the leaves landing on Pooh's nose.

Modelling the Op-shop Wedding Dress

It is amazing that the dress fits me exactly. I have never tried on a wedding dress before, so it was an interesting experience for me. I was a different shape when I did get married in my cotton dress with many fresh flowers, 26 years ago. This one has a train so it was fun.

"Soon" - Hillsong United (Brooke Fraser)

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Thursday...

Outside my window... it is dark after a warm day down off the mountain

I am thinking... how I feel better now after I have calmed down from my trip. I went to the regional centre yesterday, today I went to my hometown 2 1/4 hours away. The girls have tired themselves out and are in their rooms at 9

I am thankful for... finding a wedding dress for a reasonable price for my daughter's art project at my favourite op-shop. I saw some in another op-shop they were nearly as expensive as ebay

I am wearing... denim capris and a lilac t-shirt and scuffs

I am remembering... that I still have to sort out my food for the fortnight tomorrow, buying more and doing a menu

I am going... hopefully no where, I have Friday to recover

I am reading... nothing

I am hoping... the guy who is getting my car trucked down to get fixed is able to find someone, I'm sure he will, it will be very exciting, praying for a miracle there, as it is a fairly long way

On my mind... I am enjoying a song, I didn't really enjoy music today on my trip, or yesterday actually, but I have been enjoying Brooke Fraser

Noticing that... some of the trees are losing leaves, and things are getting even greener

Pondering these words... soon and very soon from Brooke Fraser

From the kitchen... my husband made a lovely pasta dish from virtually nothing tonight with basil he got from someone at work
Pasta Puttanesca

Around the house... my daughter went on a trip with CFA Advance. She got a glow in the dark helmet with her initial and surname on it, a t-shirt, badge, polar fleece, all very official looking and her new workboots which she loves

One of my favourite things... I have a favourite plate. Today I found one exactly the same at my hometown op-shop

From my picture journal... the dress from the back angle, it is too big, I forgot she wanted to wear it to take photos for the art project

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods: it is getting colder all the time and apparently snowing in Tasmania. I feel cold inside with my summer clothes on, with sleeves, not my really hot day lounging around at home clothes

Things that make me happy:
blogging and from that learning something that cheers me and calms me down and gives me joy

Book I am reading:
I hope to read more to keep myself off facebook and being more discreet, love to know what the Greek word actually means for that. I have found this article to help me hope to read it in depth later

What I am enjoying on TV:
Selling Houses Extreme was very good and very respectful

On the menu for dinner:
Vegetarian Japanese Pancakes, you can make them with virtually nothing but old cabbage in the fridge, last day in my fortnight

On my To Do list:
tame the bills again

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
nothing has popped up yet, haven't done my menu

In the craft basket:
last night my husband and little girl sewed a dark blue M on her light blue t-shirt for sports day, it had stains on the front so it looks better

Looking forward to this week:
if I get organised well before time I will enjoy a day out, and hopefully also getting my car organised to go to the regional centre. It is getting fixed for free!

Tips and tricks:
make pizzas from left over pastry, the girls have been enjoying it

My favourite blog post this week:
I'm not sure, I think As Ugly As Possible

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers):
Shropshire Lass

No words needed: another photo from the camp my daughter went to

Lesson learned the past few days:
that bad situations like my car, you have to perservere. I had mentioned to my husband's Dad about my car's problems, the only time we will probably see him this year, and I finally understood what could be wrong with my car, things led one to another and now I am getting it fixed for free. It came about by me asking my husband to ask them how much exactly it would cost to get fixed this time

On my mind:
I'm just happy now I have read that bible study

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses: Wow. Usually this is so vague. But after being around facebook a lot you can see the difference. Apparently there is a fast February, where people are fasting. Funny thing it is not food they are fasting from it is wine. I would never have come across it in my normal life. My facebook friends are online, they are from real life true, but either from the past, or friends of friends or even family I don't mix with, probably for these type of reasons, different lifestyle. I have seen these women all year and it is interesting that the fast has given them inspiration, though some were already inspiring themselves for health reasons etc. One says she feels better

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2. 3-5

I have been quite upset about facebook the last few days. My husband's advice to me is to not lose my temper. I found this blog post that I find interesting.

Further Instructions
2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (THIS SHOWS THAT IT’S POSSIBLE TO OBSCURE THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL IF I’M NOT COURTEOUS…NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE MESSAGE MAKES SENSE, OUR ACTIONS TOWARD THEM CAN DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT WE LOSE OUR EFFECTIVENESS AND TURN OTHERS AWAY FROM CHRIST IF WHAT WE SAY ISN’T “TASTY”….NOT MEANING PALATABLE, FOR SALT STINGS AND THE BY ITSELF TRUTH CONVICTS STILL, BUT WHAT CAN IT DO IF IT DOESN’T ENCOURAGE FURTHER DIALOG?).

Further dialogue is scary and I ask your prayer.

My daughter's camp this week

My daughter came back from her week long camp at lunchtime quiet and calm and happy. It was at one of the ski places. Apparently it is the largest mountain in Victoria, which I didn't know. I live near the highest mountain in Australia so I guess I was more focused on that. I know it is high because of the wildflowers, where my daughter went. I have seen beautiful photos, and a couple of there are lovely too, but different to those I have seen.

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers):
today I found a site for gorgeous pumpkin decorations that looks Australian The Enchanted Hollow. I also like on her other blog Nana's Recipe Book, the pictures make you want some now!

No words needed:
you can see what job we need to do next on our other house. We have done the plumbing, painted the window, weeded and painted the fence. Now the wall and part of the verandah wood out the back.

Born Free

My friend on fb, a girl this time who is a little older than me, not much, posted this song. It is good. The lyrics are all good, very encouraging. Reminds me of driving to the shops and getting back home. But really the song seems to be about middle age.

Living here sometimes you worry about the dangers of driving around the mountains etc. etc. The song talks of gratitude, God's grace, middle aged attitude to dying which I now have, while being encouraging to find your spirit to keep going. Loving the wild and free life of living in the country perhaps. I don't know see what you think.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Saturday...

Outside my window... don't know but everything is quiet outside

I am thinking... that I am feeling much better than I did last night after my long drive to the regional centre. Back was stiff this morning though. Could critic the video I posted quick easily last night. Loved talking to my son on facebook, seeing his status updates. This morning he is up bright and early and changed his sheets, see below

I am thankful for... getting everything I needed yesterday and still keeping up, my son's text book ended up being $130 instead of what I gave him of $100, had an email about his food budget being greatly diminished which I had to fix slowly. I had to get things for my daughter's camp on Monday, she felt her things where too shabby, which could mean anything these day, I think perhaps she doesn't take a close enough look at the others stuff and worries too much, but you never know. These days camping is not roughing it with old things. Towels at Sam's Warehouse for $6.99 I was very impressed with, something in the style that I usually like to buy

I am wearing... I am enjoying the ability to type while quiet and coolish, but my daughter has some music on now and I am going to get busy

I am remembering... that even though I left around 10 yesterday I didn't get home until about 7, and that is just doing what I had to do. It is sad that I have to hurry my girls through shops, I didn't get to look at any of the new clothes in Myer, but I am going back in a couple of weeks. It is like plagues of the bible in Albury, they had grasshoppers, baby crickets, not large crickets and more grasshoppers. Apparently the clothes hanging near the main door are covered with insects

I am going... no where, which is good, it gives my back a rest before my big drive

I am reading... I know there are two books in the library, but I haven't been able to pick them up and now it is the weekend. One is by BJ Hoff so chances are I will read and enjoy it

I am hoping... my husband is OK sanding the ceiling today. He is more tired than usual. He is a workaholic, but having his foot frozen, and having shingles last year, he seems very tired the past few weeks, still may be the change in weather. Yesterday I think it was back to being humid where I was, raining all day here. I know because the water came downhill to meet me when I was driving home. The Hume has filled up so much in a week, back to overfull, very nearly how it was earlier

On my mind... just moving along with my day

Noticing that... being in the Myer fitting room was like being on an episode of Trinny & Susannah with the 360 degree mirror. I was waiting a long time. I was there to get my daughter fitted, but knew I needed some as I have lost weight

Pondering these words... not many words except the words to the song something like days without rain caught my attention when my daughter was playing it the other day and today I saw part of it on TV

From the kitchen... I didn't get my Indian ingredients of Fenegreek leaves dried and another thing I needed to try a marrow curry

Around the house... an unusual fold up Malaysian looking hat with batik on it, I got it at the op-shop yesterday. We had had lunch early 2/3 of the way into our trip and it was raining, but you don't get very wet when it is hot, and we walked via the op-shop to the car

One of my favourite things... my dinner set. Found a bread and butter plate at the op-shop to add to it, didn't have many of those, I actually got it for free

From my picture journal... this the doona cover one of my daughter's pointed out to me at an op-shop, luckily it was a double bed size I think for a king single, he finds lots of positive messages in Pokemon. I think I am happy because I can see the point to my efforts a couple of weeks ago and it is making sense to me now. I often ask my husband stupid questions like that, I know it is his job, but at my age I feel I should be past that somehow

Rascal Flatts ~ Why

A friend on Facebook posted this. Yes I have mentioned friends posting before, they are three different people, yes all males. They seem to know the good songs. Today though I was singing a song Tania suggested to me, while driving in the regional centre.

Back to normal routines

Feeling on the depressed side earlier. I think really I am tired. I started my menu when I felt better and realised this is what I love. During the school holidays which ended last Friday, I didn't get on the computer much, so I look forward to better days ahead. My back nearly went out the other day, but it was localised to my hip or right leg. I had a couple of painful spasms which means it was damaged, so maybe that is contributing to my tiredness. I am so grateful, it hasn't affected what I can do at all except for the first day. It is very emotional sending a child back to uni four hours away, yet I think it was time, hence the back going out I think.

I can feel even though I am happy doing the menu my stamina for it is not very high. So that would indicate I need rest, and not to worry too much about being depressed that it will come OK when I don't feel so tired.

The mechanic is working on a pricing for what may be wrong with the car, he said he had to do some research which is much better than surprises later I think.

I feel my husbands foot is nearly back to normal. He is wearing boots and seems to be coping with work and classes fine with it. There is a small patch he has to cover. Remember this is a wart that was frozen and he ended up on crutches, so blessed we had just enough time for him to recover during his holidays.

I feel so blessed as well by little things. My eldest son gave my uni boy an Indian milk shake, it is those type of things that make him really happy. And also the end of a monthly bus ticket. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness. He was so excited to go home to the city and that would have helped, and the offer for him to watch TV, what they were watching, whoever was there at the time.

Me, myself and I

It has been a long time since I have filled in a meme. I found this at Ganeida's blog and made the answers my own. How about you? You could cut and paste the above and fill in your own answers, or you could just share a few. If you do it on your blog, be sure to put a link to your blog in Julie's comments section so others can share.

I Am…… a middle aged lady, it has taken awhile but it is true

I Want…… my car fixed, it starts up rather softly, and the fumes from the glycol in the antifreeze come through to the front, apparently it is wrecking the bearings, so I will be trying to get a quote and examining the finances to see if I can get it done earlier than tax time. The idling settles down and I can drive around town as it is a small town and I don't drive far, it doesn't go any further than that without needing water. I told my husband he can drive it and I will drive his, but I think I will be driving him back to work after lunch and keeping it in the afternoons

I Should… be more used to kids going back to uni after the holidays, I guess I will feel better in a couple of days, I expect him still to be here in his room, he went home yesterday

I Wish…… I could get new glasses. I remembered that I thought I needed some last July!!!

I Hate…… nothing

I Fear…… nothing really, I don't think about it

I Hear…… my daughter and her friend on my computer. After miserable draining weather it is cold today. I have a warm top on, and my daughter is swimming!! She had two lessons owed to us. My daughter's friend is moving soon

I Search…… nothing today

I Wonder…… what it would have been like to meet a new friend I have who I should have by rights met when I was a teenager but I had somehow missed them, it is amazing really

I Regret…… things that happened to me as a teenager, which I can't talk about because it may hurt someone else

I Love…… finding clothes that fit that have been hidden away. My daughter moved around her room, she wanted a makeup mirror. It is very cute with white oldfashioned table, mirror and white matching chair, that matches accidently really. She has fairy lights around the mirror. There were some clothes she didn't want, and my youngest has gone off to swimming with a new outfit

I Always…… find I am happier blogging, so it is a shame I haven't been doing so much of that!

I Usually…… find it hard to breathe lately, oh for some normal clear warm days

I Am Not…… as middleclass as I wanted to be

I Dance…… in my mind with all the music, so much of it has differently dances in it, especially things like country, and Enrique. And even modern music reminds me of ballet and watching the hip hop dancers because of ballet

I Sing…… if my girls let me

I Never…… get drunk, but don't ever experiment with taste tests. I tried seeing if I like Bundy more than dry white, which I detest. It turned out quite nice, it was actually Riesling I don't like, we cook with dry white, especially Riesling in the past. I had Bundy straight on two occasions to avoid going to the hospital when my back had collapsed during the spring of last year. Try a little of each and it is mixing drinks, and boy does it make a difference! Luckily I had tipped a lot of the Bundy down the sink!

I Rarely…… eat at a cafe let alone a restaurant especially not with a wine in my hand

I Cry…… a lot more than I ever did. When I moved here I didn't cry at all, so five years ago I remember I didn't cry, so a little while after we moved

I Am Not Always…… happy looking back on my life these days, which is not like me

I Lose…… track of when I have taken medicine and things like that, I have to write it down

I’m Confused…… sometimes talking to my eldest on the phone. It is hard to explain and I'm guessing he finds it very frustrating

I Need…… more sleep than I get

I Have…… more understanding about God than I did a year ago I think

Update

This is the result of my trip out on Thursday. My daughter had her long hair cut and got some new shorts for school in Myer.

Yes, we did get lots of rain at the end of the week. My husband took our son out to the interstate today and there was shallow water over the road. After three days of humidity it was a welcome relief to have decent rain, the little amounts of rain probably made it worse. We are very drained from it. Once I could only sit under the fan and watch The Sound of Music, I didn't know what else to do with myself. We had mini blackouts last night. I felt a bit better in the morning yesterday, the girls and my husband were at school, at least until lunchtime when my daughter had frees. Our second son was at home, but it was pleasant.
