That's My World Tuesday

These photos were taken on Saturday.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror --
The wide brown land for me!

Dorothea MacKellar

I'm not sure I loved being here too much lately, I think I wanted to run away! Last Sunday the day after Black Saturday really seemed to dry things out. We did have a little bit of rain though I think.

Good morning Linda,

I can see why you live there, it's beautiful.

Thanks for sharing these lovely photos.

We still have the smoke haze, it was really thick yesterday and Sunday. 35C today with no rain.

Have a great day,

Tania

It really is a beautiful area... and to see mountains is quite nice indeed!
It is looking a tad dry but I'm sure a good rain would make things come alive... I hope you will get one soon.

We had a lot of very hot days, some 44oC, and the last one just seemed to be the last straw I thought.

Looks dry, remote, and austere ... and bit like California or Arizona country, which would make it dry. The best thing about travel is not that we see places we love better, but see our home turf with new eyes when we return. Sounds like you could use a dose of that.

I was being scared because of the bushfires and the death toll. I felt maybe it was foolish living in the south east of Australia, but I feel a little better about it now.
Hi Linda, no rain and very hot, I hope it changes soon. Still the countryside looks very beautiful and stunning. Mine is on thisandthat.) I do love the poetry. It rings very true does it not?

This week it is mostly hot in the late afternoon, I guess if we had the traditional change of times for daylight saving it would have been a help. Waiting for my heat rash to go away!

The poetry seems much more real now, I wonder why she embraced the terror?

This is the whole poem, maybe it will make more sense.

"Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold -
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze."

It's an austere beauty, but beauty nonetheless. Open, dry, and perfectly itself.

Love your country. I was able to visit for a month one year. Went to Melbourne by train and stayed
in a pub/hotel on the Snowy River/Ocean front at Marlo.
I loverd it. I remeber the Brown mountains looking simular to those you captured.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Linda

Nice pics and the poem ties in nicely. The hills are brown now but hopefully with a bit of rain later in the season, they will be emerald green and lush.
We live in the lower SE of SA and our area is called the Green Triangle. I would hope by Anzac Day that we have had some rain and the paddocks will be tinged with green. I must try and get some pics of our district and town. The sunrise and sunsets have had me fascinated lately because of the smoke haze and the fantastic colours it produces.

Cheers - Joolz

That week of over 40 really knocked nature about here. We have had no water for the garden since before the end of last summer. 150year old trees are in deep distress and we are building a dugout.

Hi Linda,
We have had some rain and now with the warmth everything is green. It is truly amazing what a little rain can do. I hope you get some soon.
Hang in there and enjoy your patch of beauty.
