100 Things

I found this at Towards Sustainability. I can't say I have seen it around, must visit some more Aussie blogs.

100 Things.

1. Started your own blog.

Yes, three.

2. Slept under the stars.

Yes, at a lake, in the bush part of a friends farm.

3. Played in a band.

I don't think so.

4. Visited The Great Barrier Reef.

No.

5. Stood under the stars in the outback, the real outback – think Uluru.

Maybe at a motel in Robinvale.

6. Given more than you can afford to charity.

Maybe to church once.

7. Been to the Gold Coast’s theme parks – any one, you take your pick.

No.

8. Climbed a mountain.

I have walked around Mt. Kosiosko probably many times, Mt. Buffalo a few times, Mt. Buller once. Then there is Mt. Mittamatite, Mt. Lawson and maybe some others.

9. Held a praying mantis.

Yes, but unfortunately one day I stepped on one.

10. Sung a solo.

Not that I remember.

11. Bungee jumped, jumped out of plane, been paragliding or hang-gliding, hot air ballooning – you get the idea, you’ve been hundreds of metres about earth in a seemingly flimsy contraption.

No. Maybe climbed something high.

12. Visited Melbourne.

Many many times.

13. Watched a lightning storm at sea.

Not that I know of.

14. Taught yourself an art from scratch.

I'd have to think hard about all the different arts. Maybe spinning, though I would have had some help. I think I did learn to knit by myself, and later learnt a better way to cast on from a pro.

15. Had a child. Raised a child. Worked with children.

I have had five children and raised two and partly raised two others. Am raising three girls.

16. Had food poisoning.

Once or twice maybe.

17. Been to the Snowy Mountains.

Yes. A lot.

18. Grown your own vegetables.

Lots. But I was only helping.

19. Visited the Brett Whitely studio in Surry Hills, Sydney.

No.

20. Slept on an overnight train or bus.

I think I have because I know what sleepers are like, but maybe I haven't. Bus I think yes.

21. Had a pillow fight.

No.

22. Been backpacking.

No.

23. Taken a mental health day.

Maybe I was too tired one day and took a flex.

24. Been buried in sand with just your head and toes sticking out.

Maybe.

25. Held a possum, kangaroo or koala – or any other native Australian animal.

Yes, in the 60s my parents and Grandparents had one pet each that I remember, a kangaroo and a wombat.

26. Gone skinny dipping.

No.

27. Been in a fun run.

No. Does a walk-a-thon count?

28. Been on the Blue Mountain cableway.

No.

29. Seen a total eclipse.

Yes.

30. Watched a sunrise or sunset.

Yes.

31. Played, or watched, summer cricket.

Yes.

32. Sailed, kayaked or canoed our beautiful waterways.

No.

33. Seen the Daintree.

No.

34. Visited the birthplace of your ancestors.

Depends how far back you go. No I haven't been overseas.

35. Visited an Aboriginal settlement or mission.

No. Went close to where I knew there was one.

36. Learned a new language.

I lived next door to children who couldn't speak English when I was about eight. I learned a little Italian but recently I decided I learnt Spanish as well, just didn't realise.

37. Had enough money to be truly satisfied.

Um, what a strange question. I suppose when we were first married that was the case, I think it was all in the mind.

38. Toured the Sydney Opera House.

No.

39. Tried rock climbing (indoor or outdoor), abseiling or just simple bush walking.

Bush walking, lots.

40. Visit Queensland’s Gallery of Modern Art.

No.

41. Been to the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

On TV.

42. Sunbaked at Bondi.

No.

43. Bought a stranger a meal at a restaurant.

Not that I remember.

44. Visited Broome.

Um, well I know two people who have broken up after visiting Broome, two seperate relationships.

45. Walked on a beach by moonlight.

Yes.

46. Been transported in an ambulance.

No. Does that put the moz on me?

47. Had your portrait painted.

No.

48. Gone fishing.

Yes, many times, freshwater and sea.

49. Seen Tasmania’s old growth forests.

I think so. I have seen some of Tasmania's forests, and Victoria's and NSW's.

50. Been to the top of Q1, on the Gold Coast.

No.

51. Gone scuba diving or snorkelling.

Yes, in the river.

52. Kissed in the rain.

Not that I remember. Sorry hubby if we did that.

53. Played in the mud.

Only out of the mud with my cousin's mud pies. Maybe I only got to watch, it was quite elaborate.

54. Gone to a drive-in theatre.

Yes.

55. Been in a movie.

No.

56. Driven the Great Ocean Road.

Yes.

57. Started a business.

No. But since hubby is 11 years older than me it may be on the cards to run one, not start one.

58. Taken a martial arts class.

No.

61. Sold Girl Guide biscuits.

63. Got flowers for no reason.

Yes.

Yes.

Not that I remember.

Yes.

Maybe helped someone.

It wasn't clear I was doing that, maybe I have.

Yes.

76. Travelled, or climbed, over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Yes.

77. Broken a bone.

No.

78. Been on a speeding motorcycle.

How fast is speeding?

79. Seen the Three Sisters at Echo Point, Katoomba.

No.

Yes.

81. Visited St Mary’s Cathedral, in Sydney.

No.

82. Bought a brand new car.

No.

83. Been to Hermannsburg.

Where?

84. Had your picture in the newspaper.

No.

85. Read the entire Bible.

I think so. Maybe there are some nooks and crannies I haven't delved into for want of a better word.

86. Visited Parliament House.

I've driven very close to it.

87. Killed and prepared an animal for eating.

Watched but possibly not actually done it.

88. Had chickenpox.

Yes, not a nice experience at 27 with a 6 month old just after my three year old was hospitalised with it.

89. Saved someone’s life.

I took a child a short distance out of the river once when I was young myself. I also jumped in after my two year old into the pool.

90. Sat on a jury.

No.

91. Met someone famous.

Rod Mullinar and Michael Caton (joke that is actually Lee Kernaghan in the video) & Sue Scott, and a few AFL footballers.

92. Joined a book club.

No.

93. Lost a loved one.

Not anyone like a husband or a child. I have lost my Dad and a close cousin. Of course my Grandparents and one uncle have passed away if you wish to count those, and my childhood best friend. I was also close to my Great Aunts and Uncles and I remember three of their deaths, not extremely tramautic like the question suggests, so no.

94. Saved a pet.

No. I don't think so.

95. Been to the site of the Eureka Stockade.

I drove nearby and saw the flag.

96. Swum in The Whitsundays.

No.

97. Been involved in a lawsuit.

No.

98. Owned a mobile phone.

Yes.

99. Been stung by a bee.

Yes.

100. Read an entire book in one day.

Probably.

I know...it IS hard to find good strong dog toys. Usually within a hour or less, our dog has already chewed his up!

Happy New Year! Of the 100 things I've done, there are a lot of them that I did while in Australia. Thanks for the memories (one day I'll talk about Ayers Rock and the stars!)
