Anne of Green Gables

I was reading a fellow Skywatchers post on Friday. She was talking about Anne of Green Gables. It is a popular topic in blogland. But what I found interesting is that it is the 100th Anniversary of the publication of the book.

What I have learnt through blogs etc. is that Anne has a connection to Canada. I suppose I was ignorant of the exact setting for the book.

I have watched it on TV. My Australian readers, did you watch it too, and was it in the 80s? Now I am thinking it must be on Youtube?

I have since bought a vintage book from my favourite collectibles shop now closed. I haven't read it yet though. Gilbert is a name in my family, so I enjoyed that part of it very much. I also liked how one of the characters has an unusual flower name.

It is on youtube and I think I have looked at it before. I think this is part 1. Goodness, that mother is awful shouting in front of the baby.

I have looked at the whole thing now, and it is surprising I do remember it now. I loved how Anne looked a little like my middle daughter, I suppose they were a similar age at the start of the movie. Maybe I will watch the sequel now.

I really liked the attitude of Marilla on the first day they met, the way she answered some of things Anne said when she was upset.

What is your favourite part of the movie?

I was just thinking the other day how I must read the book again. I haven't seen the movie since it came out. xx
Oh yes... Anne is big here in Canada...It's based on her life in Prince Edward Island which is another island province (not too far from here...in the grand scheme of things). The author of Anne of Green Gables also lived (at some point in her life) very close to where I grew up.

Sadly, I've never read the books...but I did see some of the tv series.
