Review of 2010

Usually each year when I blog I review my year, or remember at least doing it once lol. I haven't my photos on the laptop, but don't feel I can spend the time, but I could add them when my computer is fixed. Very hot ending to the year isn't it? Usually it rains sometimes on New Year, no sign of that here.

I had a harder time than usual this year on a personal level. But I am still going along OK, and hope that improves as it set off a bit of anxiety and back problems perhaps.

However at the end of last year I was worried about a lot of other things and everything turned out well. And at the start of the year we saw our son settled in university. He was in a really convenient location which gave him a good start. He got varying marks, but when I get worried I tell myself he got one high distinction and four credits so that is good. He only studied seven subjects this year because of timetable issues doing a major that is not common to the science degree which is maths. He got a pass too.

During the time of Christmas in July I was able to attend a reunion of my friends from my year at high/tech school. We had been talking on facebook for a couple of months and some others came as well. It was a group of about 30 and we had our photos taken. I got some new clothes for it and that helped all during spring, I enjoyed that. I nearly didn't go to the reunion.

From that group, I talk to at least two women all the time on facebook. I caught up with a lady who I have known all my life. She sat across from me and from that talk I was able to talk to another friend and get something off my chest. Not sure what the upshot of that is yet, but it all helps I suppose. I usually don't dwell on the past, I am sort of reviewing my high school years I guess and that period of my life, in which quite a lot happened really. As my husband said, after that at 20 I settled down into a routine that has stayed with me since.

The winter itself was the coldest I have put in I think. But I was conditioned to the cold by then. We also got extra wood at the end of the season which was extended and we used it. By then trees were waterlogged and falling down so it was good we didn't have to go find wood.

I lost a lot of weight, when I say a lot, it feels that way because I have been a similar weight since perhaps my children were little. Though having said that the time I thought I got bigger turned out not to be true as I looked thin when expecting my second child. That can be explained though, I always seemed thinner after delivering a baby. I am at the weight now that I was after the last two babies.

This was an upshot of saving money for my daughter's deb ball. I kept going to the regional centre for clothes etc. and really had to work at making things stretch by a lot of thinking and planning. It stretched me that is for sure. Then I never did get back to my full shopping allowance for food that I usually spent the year before. I didn't actually go shopping in my usual place in NSW at all, maybe once. So more housebound, except really I did get to go to the regional centre for the deb ball and other things, and got to shop in my favourite supermarket Coles sometimes. It was my favourite before I came here 7 years ago. I feel fairly comfortable in the regional centre's Coles now which is 1 1/2 hours away.

I was housebound in the sense of having the back problems three times. I did like how I got to go to Melbourne. I have been going better than usual in that I got to go to Melbourne in 2009 in October, and this year in August. That is more than I usually get to go even when I lived closer perhaps. We live 5.5 hours from Melbourne.

My car was in the workshop for extended periods three times. So the back and the car and the personal problems were really something different and not normal here.

I have some goals for next year. Have limited computer time so will add to it later. This was my friend's status and I want to remember it so am posting it here.

Sowing seed or Planting

There were raspberries and other berries picked but they have slowed down now.

Planning for The Future

We are further along with the jam. Hopefully it will be made tomorrow.

Working for the Future

The photos below are finishing off jobs that my husband has been doing. It is in preparation for selling the second house.

Building Community

I was up the street today going to a library book sale. I was in the pub laneway to get there and felt like I was being seen, and also keeping up with what the visitors where doing in the main street. People are more likely to know me than me them.

My son designed and made with my Mum's sewing coaching a pichu, which is gorgeous. They made the bear as well.

Christmas Day 2010

I wanted to take a picture of these bottlebrushes the other day. They are at a bush toilet stop. While we were there we saw a wild deer and her baby, and heard a gang gang. There is a wattlebird in the bush.

Some sights on the way. On the way home I think they were setting up a stuffed Santa outside.

Now on the way home hoping to do some window shopping and photo taking in the old fashioned shops.

After toilet break which had a lovely surprise of soap for a change, foiled by the rain.

By this time my husband who had been driving our son's car is he had driven 5 1/2 hours to get to my Mums earlier, rescued me from my driving, which unfortunately wasn't good this particular time. I had the delight though of driving through a light amount of locusts. They had red stripes on their legs I think.

Nearly back home.

Here is a lovely post I read for Christmas.

Make you feel my love ~ Ronan Keating

Winter Song by Ronan Keating

This song I am sure my daughter played for me perhaps a week ago. I was so surprised Ronan Keating does it. With the beautiful snow pictures it seemed fitting.

White Christmas Down Under?

Snow has fallen on Mt. Kosciosko, you can see it here. May be able to get a photo tomorrow. Here is our lounge, the middle lights aren't working again, but this is our wood heater with the Christmas lights.

It's Only Christmas

Thank you Tania, it brought a couple of tears to my eyes. You know me so well, especially the line about the dancing.

Which is your favourite Ronan Keating song?

Or are they a bit much?

Country Music Pic

I played this last night and enjoyed it because it was Saturday night. It is a bit much, but really I was enjoying the video and the beat. And still enjoying it today is it is a bit drab outside and quiet.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Sunday...

Outside my window... the sky is lightening and and path is wet, it is supposed to snow in the mountains, could have taken a picture, but it would be covered in clouds today

I am thinking... how it is nice my Mum has taken the two older kids who have now a habit of staying up late etc. for a holiday before Christmas

I am thankful for... a bit of time for myself with no pressure to do things for uni or school or people coming and going from the door, though yesterday I was quite surprised to get Christmas parcels in the mail. It is also great to play my music loud without someone turning it down!

I am wearing... winter clothes, not very warm inside at all. The chimney still has plastic over it to keep out the rain, and we have the electric oil heater on and it is still 19° which is cold inside

I am remembering... I don't want to remember anything lol. I did remember to tell my husband what paint colour he is going to use next on the door frame

I am going... to Mum's for Christmas

I am reading... I have finished a lovely book called Loving tenderness by Gail Gaymer Martin.

I am hoping... to have a nice year next year. Someone sent me Christmas wishes on Facebook, and it gave me hope, it is nice to get Christmas wishes isn't it

On my mind... how special each persons individual circumstances can be

Noticing that... maybe I will get in the Christmas mood before Christmas. I haven't been in denial about Christmas before as I have this year

Pondering these words... from friends on facebook, one said that we aren't an island and I actually talked about things I keep to myself, good for getting a new persepective

From the kitchen... left over chow mein and a cup of tea for lunch

Around the house... lots of cleaning and washing, it is nice, pretty lights on the mantel

One of my favourite things... the McClymonts when I am in the mood for them

From my picture journal... thankfully he shaved it off to go to Nana's. He has been home since last Saturday

Back to Basics Challenge

From December 7

Sowing seed or Planting

More berry picking.

Planning for The Future

I am planning on getting sugar and starting to make raspberry jam next weekend. I hope it works out.

Working for the Future

I love this picture. It shows that with the tiles put back and some different colour handle pulls (not gold) the kitchen will make some sort of sense. Well it is lots better than it was. It shows what a bit of advice from a professional can do. The white is 1/4 strength Hog Bristle by Dulux.

Building Community

My husband went to a dinner on Friday. I didn't go unfortunately.

I learnt how to use grooveshark to repeat my music on the computer.

After watching a disasterous Lee Kernaghan's Dirt video, this was the next popular song on the CMC countdown around 15. Then the kids got the remote back.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Tuesday...

Outside my window... there is a light breeze outside, very nice, warm but not too hot

I am thinking... if I am short waisted or long waisted, my friend did the leg work for me and here is the answer (how to tell)

I am thankful for... good health

I am wearing... jeans, because I haven't got my shorts ready for summer yet

I am remembering... my plan with my money, will exucute some of it tomorrow

I am going... hopefully to pick my daughter up from school

I am reading... finished The Inn At Shadow Lake by Janet Edgar

I am hoping... I enjoy the Pumpkin Patch order I did for my little girl, I had been wanting to do it for ages and didn't have the opportunity, lots where already sold, but they match what she already has and will be for all seasons, which means I am worried I have enough t-shirts

On my mind... how I still feel easily overwhelmed, like a very minor minor anxiety about my back, it must have given me a fright

Noticing that... I have to find a Mary costume for my little girl

Pondering these words... "It is boring being taken seriously all the time." ~ Trinny & Susannah and...

"Practicing Sabbath rest is one way of exercising humility" ~ Head Heart Hand blog post

From the kitchen... either bought quiche and salad or hamburgers from bought patties

Around the house... our eldest daughter has a nice boy who is a friend over for the first time, they are very quietly playing the wii with our youngest daughter as well

One of my favourite things... Justin Bieber's newer songs and the acoustic versions of the older songs, so smooth. Just stops them going old, not that they really do

From my picture journal... from my rose garden at the other house, where the catmint takes over lol

Back To Basics Challenge

From November 20 (Saturday)

Sowing seed or Planting

Lots of berries to pick at the other house. This photo was taken on the weekend.

Planning for The Future

I have been to the house to check the paint colour in real life. My back was sore, I got to see it before I couldn't walk. Haven't been driving much but feeling much better (drove today with much less trouble than last timegetting out of the car). Had a look at the paint work from lots of angles, think real estate agent is a genius. The home looks much more stately.

Working for the Future

Sunday my husband was undercoating the kitchen. He got two coats on.

Building Community

I'm still getting a lot out of facebook.

I feel Facebook helps skills too, relating to people in a different way than you perhaps did in the first place.

not sure, last night we had simple hamburgers, soup doesn't appeal in this weather

On my To Do list:
I have done a lot of my jobs, still can't bend to pick things up, and I even found waving my arms around to wipe the table today difficult, damaging may be a better word (recovering from back problem)

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:

In the craft basket:
still the same old curtains

Looking forward to this week:
I suppose having my son home again? Sounds hectic to me lol. Finishing the painting in the other kitchen that my husband is doing

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:
Titus 2:4 see other post

This meme is from Sandra's blog.

Titus 2:4

Everything One's Heart Desires Art Print

"That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,"

I came across an article while looking for a quote from the movie Love Comes Softly. It is very good, it helps me understand something I wrote about one other time here. This is what I wrote about the subject of Titus 2:4 nearly 2 years ago.

My husband looked it up in the Lexicon for me and the word is used like "I am fond of country living" or "I am fond of travel". Like these days when someone asks how do you like you new job, and they might reply "I love it". (I wouldn't use that phrase, always hard for me to think in those terms about something like a job or a place of living, I usually mumble a yes, and then wonder if I really do love it.)

There is: fond of blood, fond of wailing, fond of watching the contest, fond of being in the contest, fond of flowers, fond of your sister or your brother. Yes, they are all in the Lexicon.

It is so modern isn't it? You can imagine people categorised by these fondness for things good or bad. So we have to be categorised as being fond of our husband and children.

Fond of one's husband, conjugal, with a secondary meaning of loving men.

I was reading a teen magazine article that caught my eye recently. It was basically how to get a boyfriend, I think. They suggested a way to be comfortable and being able to relate to men from memory. And that was to know people, other men. Like brothers, father, uncles, so you know how to relate to that half of the human race.

I am thinking at the age now, that perhaps having two sons has helped me with this, or perhaps being married for 24 years and spending many hours in my husband's company.

What I took Titus 2:4 to mean is perhaps we have to love the man part of our husband. You know that lots of woman have been known to say "Men!" I'm not suggesting then they shouldn't help you around the house if you need it.

Now to the article I found:

"And still not know what love is. This may sound confusing. Trust me I feel the same way. I have rattled it around in my brain trying to make sense of it. I think that I finally have it down so I am going to attempt to put it into words for you.

Here is an example that I feel best fits what I am trying to say. Say you have a favorite food. You love this food and order it anywhere that you go if it is on the menu.

No need to choose or decide, cause you know that what you want. But unless you really investigate how it is made, it’s origin, and any other information you can find. You will never truly know your favorite food. Only that it tastes amazing on your tongue.

The same goes with feelings. You an feel something without really understanding why it is you feel that way. Why does love make you feel the way it does? Why does it change the way we think and see the one it’s target for?"

Spiritual Sunday

This brought tears to my eyes, even though I had seen an earlier one before.
