Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Tuesday...

Outside my window... I noticed today lots of trees have very few leaves left, it must have been the recent rain

I am thinking... how we had another late night of driving around with that spectacular moon that was chopped in half from the top, haven't seen anything like it. We were driving through a logging track to meet up with our sons and my eldest son's girlfriend who I hadn't met before, to escort them to our other house to stay. They had been to the football in Melbourne which is 5 1/2 hours drive

I am thankful for... my new friends that I met as a result of the preparations of the reunion I attended at Easter time. We all have our hometown in common which results in a lot of networking

I am wearing... a midseason top, that I got quite awhile ago, I have mentioned it before and my new jeans which I love, they are from Regatta

I am remembering... that I had a lovely time picking up my daughter from gym. It has started again, always a chance to see the stars and be out in the very brisk air, just on sunset these days, very pretty tree silhouettes

I am going... to the dentist again. But, I get to go to my hometown again, and I guess digest the fact that I really did go to the reunion. Then on the way home I get my hair trimmed, on time! I promised the hairdresser faithfully I would be back in 6 weeks, which goes very quickly for me, and the hairdresser is 1 1/2 hours away. Our LPG isn't working so the trip out is going to cost $100 instead of a lot less. I haven't filled up petrol in about a decade and not looking forward to it, but it is about time!

I am reading... nothing

I am hoping... I can talk to the dentist about my tooth without getting upset

On my mind... enjoying an Enrique song I hadn't heard before, If The World Crashes

Noticing that... my daughter is playing the Ocarina

Pondering these words... from the Royal Wedding, the text they used, was it Ephesians?

From the kitchen... we had yesterday black turtle beans with green lentils and a lot of spices from Nigella.com, but I think we will tweak it again before having it again. Our adaption didn't quite suit us

Around the house... the costume my eldest daughter wore to a homeschooling friends birthday party, it was an Irish costume that another friend from church helped her with. It was really lovely

One of my favourite things... the perfume I wore to the reunion. It was a sample. I need to find out how much a bottle costs, it was White Heat. Same with the cleanser, toner and moisturiser, I was really happy with them

From my picture journal... waiting at my hometown for the reunion time during Easter

More of our week

I feel much better today. One of the guys that was to be at the reunion, the brother of my friend, who is also a friend hired a car weeks ago and when he was ready to go to the reunion was stuck 5 hours and missed it. Luckily we had another event the next day and he was able to go to that. I was looking at the photos, and was happy to see them, I didn't go to that one. Haven't heard a word from them so it was lovely, I think I miss their company.

This is one of the photos of the wood that my husband has been chopping on his holiday.

While I was waiting for the reunion to start I read the book Shall We Dance by Maggie Alderson, absolutely LOVED it! It was written in 2010 and had facebook references lol. I was VERY well behaved at the reunion BTW!

Trinny & Susannah is on tonight! I hope I remember. I will feel much better then. I have been weird since I got home from the reunion on Saturday night. It was a very nice night though, at no time did I feel out of place, everyone was extremely nice. I saw this lady who remembered me obviously so well, and related to me that way, and I had no idea who she was. We had chocolate icecream with a straw in the regional centre 3/4 hour from the reunion before midnight sometime, a whole row in McCafe with my three girls and my husband on cool retro orange seats. I had a coffee, had pizza around 9 at the reunion. After awhile about 1/2 hour from home with everyone asleep I drove through the bush with my music turned down low, before that they wouldn't let me. They were having a gas bag (talk) and we looked at the enormous moon driving along the freeway.

Today my husband is painting the rest of this section.

The week that was

My daughters came back from a church camp on Friday morning. They actually left on Thursday up the freeway, to southern NSW where they stayed at a B&B I think, then came home via the town our other house is in, stopped to chat to their friend who was dressed in CFA gear collecting money for the televised Good Friday appeal. These are photos from camp. My daughter thought the possum was a cat at first. I used to see possums when I was a child on the farm.

They were in the car for a long time, then had to do it again on Saturday when I went to my reunion. Sisters together walking to the shop to get chips. I loved that.

They took a picture or two of the war memorial. It is Anzac Day today, it is like our version of Memorial Day.

Me during our usual break an hour or so before we got there.

Things that make me happy:
Trinny & Susannah in Australia, I just watched it and got teary

Book I am reading:
none, but thinking about reading something. I have ordered a chit lit book, wonder if I will like that? I do like it, it is called Shall We Dance? by Maggie Alderson 2010.

What I am enjoying on TV:
Trinny & Susannah in Australia. They have been to Sydney, Canberra, now Melbourne. On Mondays on You channel

On the menu for dinner:
Spicy Lentil Cottage Pie

On my To Do list:
I have to do a rushed fruit order in an hour and half window on Tuesday

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
I haven't made up my menu. I can't order fruit and vege online this week because of Easter, will try to buy some things tomorrow

In the craft basket:
still the same curtains!!!

Looking forward to this week:
the reunion of course, 5 days to go I think

Tips and tricks:
use a child's bike tyre to fix a wheelbarrow

My favourite blog post this week:
Simple thoughts on country roads by Renata, it is a must read

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers):
news of Duggar's book

No words needed: my daughter's dragon costume, there is a tail. The skirt was from a Mexican costume, the wings from a unicorn costume, the frill from a homemade ballet skirt and the rest a mermaid costume that was too small I think

Lesson learned the past few days:
if you walk around on high heels after not wearing them for years, after your shower for awhile you will remember. Dancing with them on is good too, you will see your back needs practise too lol. I was happy with my stamina despite working up a sweat with the wood heater on, as I went for a walk with my daughter and I wasn't puffing that much, she was though a little

On my mind:
all the issues in the novel, it is so fun. With a 21 year old daughter, a 49 year old vintage clothes shop proprietor in London, single Mum with a child on the laptop all day, so relevant

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:
None that I remember.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Thursday...

Outside my window... sun shining on a distant valley, the light has definitely changed from summer light, and the jays are back, our jays, not sure if they are the same as American jays, somehow I don't think so

I am thinking... about my son and daughter's homework, though my daughter is on holidays actually

I am thankful for... my car being home and the local garage has made arrangements for us to pay them, not the garage where we took it and picked it up from

I am wearing... my good shoes to get me used to wearing them. I remembered that I wore large heels all day everyday when I was a teenager, so maybe it is second nature to wear them despite what I think. When you wear orthotics you wonder you know?

I am remembering... that it is my son's 23rd birthday this week, he is my eldest, seems a significant age for a eldest child to be

I am going... eventually to a reunion of people from my hometown in my age group that in particular enjoyed skating at the time

I am reading... I find print too small to read much, hopefully I will have new glasses in a few months. I think it is not affecting how much I read, but I am guessing I will read more with the new glasses. I did read the AWW article on Magda.

I am hoping... I enjoy the reunion, I don't go out much usually

On my mind... it is not on my mind now, but did you know that askmen.com has an article about using facebook as an alternative to sites like rsvp which as you know is often on the tv ads, even on paytv

Noticing that... shopping in major supermarkets is not like shopping at home. I put my red basket on the checkout and was swiftly told to remove it, though it just had a card and an Easter bag that I wanted to keep clean while handling a bag of dog food my daughter had

Pondering these words... This is a tough article to read. It is called Love and Modesty. I have spent a year collecting things for an outfit to wear out. The first lot I got for my daughter's deb ball. I missed out on the last things, the makeup, evening bag, and warm wrap. I got the warm wrap on Thursday, felt really bad spending the money. Feel it is difficult relating to people without going out, then I read this. This morning I tried the whole outfit on and felt I looked good in it. It was like a special moment for me as I wasn't seeing what other people saw. I have been watching Trinny & Susannah, and up until I bought my new jeans had no pants at all to wear for winter. The ones I bought not that long ago were able to be folded back, it is the new jean material, plus I am losing weight. I feel the new material is tight in the way it clings etc. But the old style of jeans makes Trinny & Susannah cringe. Anyway, it was still good.

From the kitchen... Sausage Casserole, a family favourite. When we can have beef chipolatas I have it

Around the house... the dragon costume is ready for the weekend, but we still have the tail to make, it is to be sewn

One of my favourite things... my new grey drapey vest for over my short sleeved black dress to wear to the reunion. A few days before the weather there is supposed to be 24 with an overnight of ten. Warmer than it has been. It has bling on the drapey bits

Back to Basics Challenge

I started this post on the 17th January, some things I have mentioned before, sorry.

Sowing seed or Planting

My husband dug our jerusalem artichokes. The smell of them cooking in the kitchen was lovely. This is the recipe we are using: Jerusalem Artichoke & Leek Soup & Jerusalem Artichoke Soup. They been growing for two seasons, this is the first ever dig. My husband says they need major thinning out. Maybe I should have dug them the first season after all? However it has been a very wet year, and they probably loved it.

Planning for The Future

A lean week found my husband learning to make chapatis. We had Red Lentil & Spinach Dahl and it suggested serving it with chapatis. Usually we don't do that, have the bread suggested, but it was really nice. Red lentils can be a worry sometimes if you are going to have enough to eat. They are so fine.

Also we learnt to make a paella that is cheaper than our usual one. Sometimes I have an allergy to frankfurters, and had a mild one this time, so kabana for me next time. It is more made from pantry things and was adapted from three different recipes, here, here and here.

Working for the Future

My husband got an antenna for the TV at the tip. Our tv is not ready for when the normal transmission is turned off. We were given a set top box from a move my son did, his then girlfriend gave it to us. Then we used the amplified from when we lived near Melbourne in 2003 and didn't have tv for awhile until we got the amplifier and perhaps watched Imparja.

So for my money at all we are ready. We haven't been watching free to air tv, but I find I have been missing out on some good shows.

We were given some tomato sauce made partly with something else. It wasn't shelf stable so my husband has been reboiling and bottling it. Throwing out bottles with narrow necks etc.

We have done some more work on our other house ready to sell.

My daughter bought a dress from an online shop. She also wanted a dress for the races here. In the end we figured with a bit of adjustment around the bust, and refitting the stay or bone after it was washed and fell out that the dress would work for the races. She ended up having her photo taken with her friends waiting for the bus, and it was published in the local free newspaper where our other house is. She was staying with a friend there.

My older daughter has the op-shop wedding dress for a VCE art project. My husband resewed the zip in to make the dress bigger to fit her. My Mum gave us the idea as she is a trained dressmaker.

My husband today fixed the door to my daughter's room. It wasn't actually holding on by much. Apparently that was because what it was screwed into was maranti, a soft wood.

Building Community

I have still been helping on an online community group. I don't think people realise how hard it is. That is why I have been a bit quiet.

Learn a new Skill

I learnt how to buy makeup again.

This meme comes from Belinda's blog.

Another photo from the Agricultural Show in March. This was an exhibit, not my kids.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Wednesday...

Outside my window... it is dark but there was a lovely hot looking sunset, hot colours

I am thinking... about how happy Mr Blue Sky the song has made me, I think it is lovely when friends on facebook are so thoughtful, and bring back to life an era from their own perspective, or their modern thoughts on things they know

I am thankful for... that song seems very thankful. I am glad I put effort into my menu and fruit order today as I am ready for my new plan for tomorrow

I am wearing... my new jeans which I love, at the start they were uncomfortable they are a new material that stretches to your shape or something

I am remembering... to get the Easter eggs sorted, it is school holidays on Friday, so speed is necessary now. I am going tomorrow without anyone, while they are at school, my car won't be ready this week, which turned out blessed as my husband will be on holidays and picking it up won't interfere with his work

I am going... for a lovely drive to do the shopping

I am reading... I gave up on Carrie, so nothing atm, will have to work on it, thinking of getting a Women's Weekly

I am hoping... nothing, just being happy thanks to my fb friends

On my mind... "
Apparently a real woman always has a clean house, empty laundry basket, is always well made-up, smells good, is slim, healthy, eloquent and is perfectly well-behaved. ... Copy this status if you are beginning to suspect that you are a man. "

Noticing that... I survived the daylight saving transition OK and the wood fire so far is comforting to have going

Pondering these words... my daughter gave me a big hug and asked for a new bible for Easter

From the kitchen... An Anzac biscuit (cookie) in the shape of Hi. My daughter wanted to make the actual biscuits, as they were designed for a shape they didn't move lol. They are balls

Around the house... the dragon costume taking shape

One of my favourite things... mini acorns smaller than these ones from a park I stop at sometimes

From my picture journal... acorns, my son sent me this photo on Tuesday

Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics

Some of these old songs are definitely worth revisiting.

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods: As you can see after the 2.5 night we lit the fire. It only got to 20 inside all day and the electric heater was on until 3.30pm.

Things that make me happy:
listening to Lee Kernaghan, despite saying I have moved on lol. I was singing along

Book I am reading:
I am going to try to read Carrie by Margaret Dickinson

What I am enjoying on TV:
nothing that I remember. I think some Trinny & Susannah.

On the menu for dinner:
see below

On my To Do list:
my budget is the biggest thing, depends if we are going to go to the regional centre to pick up the car, I have to get easter eggs, but the secrecy is the problem. Maybe I can send everyone else home with Dad, I'd say good luck with that lol. I would have to bring the cooler as well

New Recipe I tried or want to try soon:
Lentil & Cauliflower Dahl we ran out of eggs for our egg curry tonight

In the craft basket:
a dragon costume for my littlest girl for a monster birthday party she is going to. We used too small and broken costumes to make a new one, like wings from a small unicorn, the straps from a ballet costume etc. A skirt from her big sisters Mexican costume.

Looking forward to this week:
maybe getting my car back, they are working on it, and we know what happened to it. There will be a reduced price for us.

Tips and tricks:
The blue letter bible is on facebook

My favourite blog post this week:
Another thought about John Wesley, this time his marriage
Endeavouring to wind my bottom around the end of the year - Thinking about John Wesley from Penelope a Christian author from the UK

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers):
Loving Life As A Mother an Australian blogger who visited from Simple Woman's Daybook

No words needed: more from the festival, everyone is gone and it is very quiet. On Saturday night I sat out the front and listened to the Lee Kernaghan concert that I could hear from my yard

Lesson learned the past few days:
I read this article that helped me because I was getting confused about how sex in marriage is good, and other stuff is bad, and where the line is. The article here is perfectly pg to read. There is a great book called Sex Is Not the Problem - Lust Is. I think I want to buy it. I am amazed how much normal people for example on fb seem to lust, particularly women, which is surprising to me, and I couldn't work out exactly what lust is either, but now I can see if through the first innocent article. I found all this by googling a line from a Brooke Fraser song "And the death of lust not one day". It is from a beautiful song called Here's To You. The article also has a practical guideline for dressing, that really I haven't been getting from reading other things and I am going to think about it

On my mind:
how on earth do you stop teens downloading movies and songs?

Devotionals, Scripture Reading, Key Verses:
My daughter posted this on fb, but I think the translation is faulty. However it could be my understanding of it.
Anyone who hides hatred is a liar. Anyone who spreads gossip is a fool. The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet. ~Proverbs 10:18-19

18He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

19In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. (KJV)

Rockabilly Barndance

Did anyone learn this dance? There is one couple near the left at the end who does it the way I learnt it, from my uncle while I still lived at the farm. We learnt the dances in the local hall. I was teaching the girls what I did remember on the front path to the sound of the festival music by a local band to Eagle Rock.

Scenes from the Local Festival

School was out early today, so my husband could join me for the festival. We stood a little ahead of where the start was, it is better for photos, less horse poop lol. The army people were recreating the Light Horseman I believe. I don't go out with my husband a lot these days. I found this time some people from the parade were often trying to get his attention. He still is a very popular teacher obviously. I guess I don't see it as often.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Friday...

Outside my window... cars for the Man From Snowy River Festival

I am thinking... about how I should get ready to see my daughters in the parade. It is very cold inside, then it will be warm outside, so I sort have to get ready twice

I am thankful for... our good health, the children being very settled and happy

I am wearing... at the moment a windcheater, skivvy, new jeans, socks, fluffy slippers

I am remembering... that I haven't forgotten you all

I am going... to see one of my daughters who is in the CFA advance with her uniform on

I am reading... I have taken most of my library books back

I am hoping... I have a good time at the reunion of kids who grew up in my hometown in my age group. I don't feel comfortable that I will look right, I have plain hair and don't pluck my eyebrows lol

On my mind... I try not to think about it. My car has been broken since 2008 in August, same recurring expensive problem. There may be a resolution, I'll have to pray hard

Noticing that... I am still babying my back along. If I can get the reunion excetera that will be great, I am getting more confident that I won't have a relapse

Pondering these words... from Josh Turner showing his new baby

From the kitchen... Bacon & Spinach Macaroni Cheese

Around the house... my daughter has cleaned her room as she has a friend staying over for a couple of nights

One of my favourite things... my new foundation and lipstick and sample of perfume called White Heat. I went to the regional centre to take my car, I had the other car. I went to buy makeup, explained I haven't worn it for years, and I got a sample of mascara and moisturiser to put on the night before and on the day to make it last because it is not on dead cells. I had been reading about perfume in the Christmas Women's Weekly and the perfume sounds a little like Scarlett which sounded nice to me. I didn't choose this one, but it sounds nice! I bought an evening purse with a little strap, I think it will be a nuisance, and hints appreciated. And I got my hair trimmed, didn't realise how long it had been. Had a lovely chat with a lady with four kids in the bakery cafe. Her girls were having a baby chino which I also know little about lol

From my picture journal... my daughter on her weekend away at her friend's house
